That doesn't appear to be an English newspaper the old man's reading. It's a Spanish-language newspaper, "El Clarin" (The Bugle), maybe from Argentina? That makes the photo even more interesting, in my opinion.

The description at China.com says that the old man was reading an English newspaper and I didn't double-check. Thanks Zhuhua!

The original National Geographic article wrote that the paper was a dual English/Spanish publication, and that the old man photographed was literate in English & was reading the English section (right side up).
