Murray Building, Hong Kong

Architecture Murray Building Central Hong Kong

Murray Building is much less photographed than Norman Foster's HSBC Building or I.M. Pei's Bank of China Tower.  This old (by Hong Kong standard) building has hardly attracted any attention.  Yet when I queued outside the Peak Tram Station, the building seemed to me surprisingly surreal.

When you said Murray Building, I first thought of the old colonial-era Murray Building, which was moved from this site to Stanley.

Don't expect this Murray Building to be standing much longer. Once the Tamar move is finished, I expect this building to be torn down and replaced by one of the property tycoons.

Quite. Two decades ago Murray House was dismantled for Bank of China. It's time to blow up the Government HQ and Murray Building for ICBC and Construction Bank.

My dad worked here with the Public Works Department, and I lived just up from Peak Tram entrance in Victoria Barracks. Its a lovely building that had an underground car park that was used to shoot a Bruce Lee film, Game of Death (The motorcycle scenes)
I also recall over Christmas time, certain lights would be left on to simulate a Christmas Tree pattern.
Very sad to see a building I remembered with fondness, like so many buildings in Hong Kong torn down for development
